James G. Pondel, CFP® II Associate Vice President II Senior Portfolio Manager II Financial Advisor
Jim manages assets for individuals, trusts, retirement plans, charitable organizations and businesses.  Using a long-term value-based investment approach, he helps clients develop and implement strategies in an effort to build wealth and realize financial goals.  Key statistics such as PE ratios, book value, return on invested capital and cash flow are utilized by Jim when determining the “intrinsic” value of a company.  He believes his approach is suitable for investors attempting to outperform the market over a longer time period.
Additionally, Jim works closely with clients through a discovery process to gather the necessary information that will enable the client to determine their current financial state and their desired outcomes.  A thorough analysis of the information will allow him to create an investment recommendation with an appropriate level of risk relative to each client’s situation.  Whether the outcome is education funding, deriving income during retirement or preserving and passing a legacy to the next generation in a tax-efficient manner, Jim has the ability to build and execute strategies to help achieve those goals.
Jim began his investment career at M&I Bank where he was responsible for managing the bank’s short-term trading desk and later spent 17 successful years as a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.  Additionally, he worked at GE’s insurance division before leaving as a top performer.  Jim received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Ripon College and Masters in Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
When he is not working with clients, Jim and his family enjoy being in the great outdoors.  He is an avid runner and also likes hiking and fishing.  Jim is a board member and past president of the Kellogg Alumni Club of Wisconsin and a past volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.
Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC (“Morgan Stanley”), its affiliates and Morgan Stanley Financial Advisors or Private Wealth Advisors do not provide tax or legal advice.  Clients should consult their tax or for matters involving taxation and tax planning and their attorney for matters involving trust and estate planning and other legal matters.
